  • I am from Boston but been here in Montreal for the past ten years. Have never ever in my life seen such a poor Rental Board as this one. The Inspectional services in my area lie about our interactions, and only after being here for six years did one inspector leave a notice that she had been to my apartment.

I tell people that in Boston it takes a month to go to housing court, and both tenants and landlords are equally respected. Here, in Montreal, they are actually in collusion with Inspectional Services. In fact, the Director of Inspectional Services in my area was charged with some crimes and shortly thereafter he committed suicide. That is very sad, but it shows that there are so many problems with the Regie in the city, and they are not changing.

Last summer I once again asked my landlord La Sorbonne in Cote des Neiges, to replace screens that have holes in them, as to prevent insects from entering. Also, i have been in my apt since 2011 and there were issues when I moved in. I have repeatedly had to ask and take landlord to housing court (Regie du Loyer) or Rental Board, and ask them to fix the peeling bathtub and repair a 40 year old refrigerator as the handle fell off and it is rusting on the outside.

Though I filed a complaint with the Regie du Loyer in Montreal, I ans waiting now a year and the landlord refused to fix things. Of course when I last went to court, all I won was two free months rent but I had already spent 1,000 in attorney fees and 1,700$ of my own money to paint and make repairs to things the Regie should have gotten them to fix.

There is no place to complain, either, and so we are all at the mercy of the Regie. Here are pictures of some of the current issues, and again, ive been waiting for one year to get into the Regie to protest.
